Piazza del Cibo, Verona | 1959 Pen and Ink Drawing

An original vintage pen and ink travel drawing capturing a lively street scene in Verona, Italy. Dated May 18, 1959, the drawing depicts the market activity and historic architecture of Piazza delle Erbe, with the distinctive Torre dei Lamberti rising above the square.

Rendered in loose, expressive black ink, the scene is filled with wonderful small details—from market awnings and architectural ornament to figures moving through the square. The handwritten inscription along the bottom identifies the location and date: “Piazza delle Erbe — Verona 18 May 59.” A beautiful piece of mid-century Italian travel art with an appealing sketchbook quality.

The visible artwork measures approximately 8 x 5 inches (measured at the opening of the existing mount).

Condition: This is an original vintage drawing from 1959 and shows age and wear consistent with its history. The full sheet has several ink marks/stains along the outer edges, particularly along the left side. These are largely concealed when the artwork is displayed in its existing lightweight paper window mount. The mount is not archival mat board but provides an attractive presentation for the unusually sized drawing. The full, unmounted sheet is shown in the photos so its condition can be clearly seen. The backing of the paper mount has been reinforced with archival tape for additional support.

Photos showing the artwork framed and hanging are digital display mockups provided to illustrate how the drawing could look when framed. The frame is not included. The original drawing will be shipped unframed in its existing paper window mount.

A lovely one-of-a-kind piece for a gallery wall, travel-inspired interior, or collection of vintage Italian and European artwork.
